About Dorothea
Dorothea
began dancing at age 7, focusing on ballet, but in 2006 she found
new joy and freedom in belly dance. While originally drawn to the
beauty, power and gracefulness of the dance, Dorothea soon developed
a broader appreciation for the social and cultural aspects that
surround this ancient art form. She strives to present the dance
in a manner that is faithful to authentic Middle Eastern traditions.
Dorothea began studying belly dance with Jamileh of Portland, Maine.
She continues to study with Jamileh, and also seeks every opportunity
to attend workshops and seminars taught by respected teachers and
performers such as Ranya Renee and Karim Nagi.
Dorothea has performed with the celebrated duo Okbari, the Okbari
Middle Eastern Music Quartet, and the Alhan Arabic Music Ensemble
in Portland, Maine. She is currently teaching workshops and weekly
classes in Buxton and Scarborough, Maine.
Dorothea is delighted by every opportunity to share the tradition
of belly dance. |
